About the Festival
Pictoplasma Berlin is one of the world’s leading events for contemporary character design and animation. Each year, the festival transforms Berlin into a hub for creative work across animation, short films, motion graphics, and experimental visual arts. The “Characters In Motion” program invites international submissions of character-driven animated works for screenings at the 23rd Pictoplasma Berlin Festival in May 2027.
Eligibility & Submission Categories
- Artists and creators from anywhere in the world can submit.
- Eligible works include character-driven animated short films, music visuals, experimental animation, motion graphics, and student films.
- Submissions may be narrative, non-narrative, commissioned, or experimental.
- No entry fee is required — participation is free of charge.
- Submitters should be 18 years or older.

- Submission Deadline: 1 February 2027
- Festival Dates: May 2027 (23rd Pictoplasma Berlin)
- Works received by the deadline will be considered for the official animation selection.
Technical Requirements
- Animation submissions typically range between 1 and 15 minutes in length for official selection consideration.
- Preferred delivery formats are Full HD Quicktime (ProRes 422 HQ) or H.264.
- Submissions must be provided as a downloadable link, accompanied by a completed entry form.
Selection & Showcase
- All eligible submissions are reviewed by the festival programming team.
- Selected works will be screened at the Characters In Motion program during the Berlin festival.
- While there is no cash prize, selection provides international exposure and inclusion in a high-profile animation program.
